Exhibition Statement
Imagining a past through the lens of the avatar Julia the exhibition Julia’s Room reconstructs a narrative about growing up queer in a heteronormative domestic environment. Through the fabrication of a site responsive installation incorporating sculpture, video, AR and performance centered around the miniature site of Julia’s room. Julia’s Room investigates themes of absurdity, nostalgia to communicate how a queer person is incongruous to their domestic environment, and how Julia and the audience navigates these imagined yet familiar spaces.
